I’m writing to let you know that this morning I informed Bishop Carter and my Cabinet colleagues that I will be concluding my time on the Cabinet effective July 1, 2020. It will be announced later today, and I wanted you to know before you hear it on social media.
During the seasons of Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany, I fasted and prayed asking God to help me discern what my future looks like in light of our denominational troubles. At the end of that time, I discerned that God is leading me to start a traditionalist expression of Methodism in Florida (and possibly beyond.. At first, I thought I would be able to approach my duties from a both/and perspective. I would both carry out my duties as district superintendent and continue to build a framework in the event the Protocol passes. I have now determined that it is best for me to conclude my time on the Cabinet and focus full-time on this work. It is exciting and a little scary all at the same time.
I will begin renewal leave starting April 1, and we will give you details soon for which DS will provide coverage to the district from the time of April 1 – July 1. In the meantime, I will continue to provide leadership to our district and all district events will continue. I am looking forward to Equip a week from Saturday and helping our churches to begin getting “unstuck.”
I know not all of you are on the same theological page that I am on. I respect and honor that. I consider you my friend and want to stay in relationship as friends. I promise that we can disagree without being disagreeable!
God bless you, and please know that you can call me at any time to discuss things.
